Boston Chapter AMC offers a number of workshops for all levels of skiers throughout the season covering cross country, backcountry, and telemark skiing skills. There will be additional instructional trips during the winter season to practice your skills and have fun. Sat., Jan. 12. Novice Telemark Ski Clinic at Mt. Wachuset Ski Area. 8:30 AM-4 PM (rain day Sun., Jan. 13)
Expand your X-C and backcountry skiing skills at this workshop. Learn how to descend a steep grade using snowplow and basic telemark turns on backcountry or telemark skis. This workshop is offered at Wachusett ski resort, starting on the beginner slope and moving to steeper slopes for those that need more challenge. Metal edged skis and stiff boots are highly recommended. We will split into small groups depending on ability and equipment. Pre-registration is required. Sat., Jan. 26. Annual Beg./Int. Hill Instructional & Touring Day-trip.
This workshop is meant for skiers who are nervous on the "blue" trails or stuck on the "green" trails. Come practice your snowplow and turns. Learn to control speed, and gain confidence. Fri.-Sun., Feb.1-3. Backcountry Ski Workshop at Cardigan Lodge
This weekend workshop covers techniques and skills needed for skiing local parks or ungroomed mountain slopes. Outdoor instruction includes ski basics and drills on our large practice hill from diagonal stride to telemark turns, including techniques for climbing, turning, and stopping; also tours with instructors on the ski trails around AMC's Cardigan Lodge to practice techniques. Indoor discussions include ski equipment, proper clothing, cold weather safety, and general knowledge for skiing safely in the backcountry. Sat. Feb. 2. Novice Cross Country Ski Workshop at Weston Ski Track
This half-day workshop covers classic (kick-glide) technique, uphill/downhill skills, and more. Excellent for beginners or those simply wishing to review the basics. Located at a golf course in Weston, where snowmaking equipment is available if necessary. Pick one of 2 dates to attend (2/2, 2/3). No prior experience is required. Telemark workshop for Int. and Adv. telemark skiers, led by Heather Paul, two-time National Telemark Champion. If you are comfortable on the slopes and want to take your skiing to a new level on steeper slopes, in the woods, or on the bumps, this workshop is for you!
