Rhode Island
Water Trips in RI                                            TOP
Prudence Island - This is a good late summer/September weekend on a full moon.
Contact the State of Rhode Island to register for camping. Take a ferry from Middletown,
RI. Set up tents on the beach - works well to bring chilli and be heating it while the tents
are being set up. Then eat the chilli on the beach at a picnic table as the sun sets. You
can bike, hike, or take a ferry the next day to the other end of the island where there are
a few victorian houses and one general store. Back at the campsite that night, you can
make dinner over the fire in the fireplace - barbecued chicken or shish-ka-bobs? Take
a night hike on the beach. Sunday morning, walk through the woods to the winery
where you can sit on the lawn and sip wine. Trip ends at noon and participants can return
on the public ferry at noon, 1:00, or 4:00.

Pawtuxet River and Narrow River - Either of these are great day trips. Carpool from Boston
and don't forget to stop at Allie's Donuts on Route 2 in North Kingstown. See INTRO Paddling
Leader's Guide for outfitter contact information.

Block Island - Stay in an inn and do a bike trip??

RI DEM/Fish and Wildlife-Public Boat Launching Sites  -  This includes both fresh
water and salt water launch sites with regulations.

Gilbert Stuart Birthplace - North Kingstown, RI off Route 1 south. Put your canoe in
here and paddling down to the Narragansett Bay. If you have enough energy and
are careful, you can canoe surf here. Paddle out as far as you want, then turn quickly
to avoid waves hitting you broadside, and ride the surf in. Guess what! You can't
get all the way in to shore without swamping. It takes a lot of energy to empty the
boat and go again. The average canoeist can only manage about three rides. Again,
you must be an INTRO Paddling leader to lead a paddling trip.
